Are you going nowhere fast? Are you looking for a new direction to take your career? Your life? Have you been held back by not having a college degree or the right education? Do you have obligations, maybe a family, that’ll make it tougher to basically start over? Does it feel like you waited too long and it’s too late now? Do you feel like you’re stuck in a rut and left with no other options? Have you always wondered about what it would be like to be a web developer, software engineer, programmer, coder, etc.? Have you heard about coding bootcamps but wanted to know more about them?
I had all those questions myself back in 2015. It’s those questions that started me on this path into the coding world. Having trouble finding others that were in the same situation, I decided to write my own blog. I originally started writing this to chronicle my journey through a coding bootcamp, hoping that it would also help me with the firehose of info I was learning. Maybe along the way this might help others too. Maybe it can provide some insight for someone thinking about going to a coding bootcamp, or more specifically, Coding Dojo. Maybe you were able to answer Yes to some of those questions too. Maybe you don’t have a college degree like me and feel like the world is against you. Maybe you do have one but it’s not getting you where you want to go. Whatever the reason, I just hope I can help, and maybe, just maybe, set an example of what you can accomplish.
So who am I?
Well, my name is Chris Ulanowicz and I know what you’re thinking, ‘how the hell do you say that?’, but trust me, it’s really not that difficult. Follow along with me here, it’s pronounced Yoo-luh-no-vich. See, now that wasn’t that bad, right? If you ever get to know me, you find out pretty quick that I’m from Detroit, and no, not the suburbs which is what people usually think, but the actual city, as in south of 8 mile. My parents were both Polish immigrants, my father worked at the Chrysler Plant, and as typical for many growing up in the Motor City, I fell in love with cars. I know, this may have very little to do with the purpose of my blog, but it’s part of who I am and you’ll see that come out every once in a while. If you’re interested, I give a little bit more of an introduction in my very first ‘Hello World‘ post, or if you want to see exactly what experience I had in coding prior to this, I go into more detail in my ‘Ignorance isn’t always bliss‘ post.
